2. Mawe2.          * Sharp Grand ft Towdeemac

1. Buks                * All The Time

NEW HEAT :

At the rate cats are putting out new joints, Ms Cosmo might just have a Local Top 5 full of New Heats . I can't even keep up,even house djs are jumping on the band wagon. Hip Hop is taking over people and I think this new Skhanda sound has something to do with it,people are often drawn to what they can identify with and Kwaito is one genre we hold the "rights" to. DJ Fistaz must have one of the most interesting or non-ordinary songs out now, DJ Fanatic on the other hand took his AKA-leash off & escaped to the studio to create something of his own with Da LES. DJ Speedsta abandoned his turn up roots & jumped on to the chilled slow jam vibe for his new joint.

* DJ Fistaz.         Alone  ft Anatii, Riky Rick
                              & Chad Day Don

* DJ Speedsta.   Bad Chick ft Da LES &

* DJ Fanatic.      Flexin' ft Da LES & Dotcom

Rap Factor 5 : I've noticing a pattern here, which makes the outcome of the Rap Factor predictable. Basically if you win the first round, you've got the title of the " king of the Rap Factor " in the bag. Kinda blase (the bag "e" has a cap) if you ask me. Ms Cosmo must change things up, to make this things more interesting & less predictable. Skipper was crowned the winner and he had been taking every round from the beginning. In the last round he was up against TCC.

Cassper Nyovest Getting this corporate cash..

Cassper Nyovest stays slaying, his song Doc Shebeleza has been bought by DSTV for their  new ad campaign #FeelTheMoment.  It seems the corporates were not deterred at all by the "incident" on Friday.

This is not the first time Cassper has clinched a sweet deal, the first was when Sprite licensed "Gusheshe" for an advert. "Phumagim" has so much pressure now, what deal will it attract for Cassper?! We'll have to wait and see. Peep the #FeelEveryMoment  ad below :

Beef or Chicken, it's repulsive

Shot were nearly fired at the Urban Brew Studios when Cassper Nyovest came eye to eye with AKA's "entourage ". It is alleged by Cassper Nyovest that one of AKA's boy(s) pushed him and pulled a gun on him.

Cassper and AKA were both scheduled to perform on LiveAmp and that failed to see the lights, camera and action because of the "incident". Cassper was the one who broke the story on Twitter  and AKA was nonchalant about the whole thing, went about like nothing happened for just a moment . He later twitted subliminal with the hashtag "Composure " his fans ran with it and it trended.

Today AKA twitted that he'll be releasing a statement later this afternoon, but noon came and he went back on his tweet and basically said he didn't do anything wrong and therefore he need not explain himself.

This beef made for great entertainment but now that cats are pulling guns on each other, it's not cool.  We don't want another Biggy and Pac situation.

We can't put the blame on the LiveAmp team for putting both artist in the line up on the same day, I mean these are grown men and they should be able to put what ever issues they have with each other aside and simply be professional.

Ms Cosmo: #TheStirUp The round up

Local Top 5

#5. Crossword*    Let Go

#4. Dimples ft Dreamteam & Anatti* Yaya

#3. Truey* Body Bags

#2. Junior Derocka ft Zakwe,Maraza &
       Nasty C * Keep Going

#1. Chad Day Don ft Cassper Nyovest*
        Raybans

New Heat:  Yet again 2 tracks  to choose from- Ugogo  by 1/3 of Teargas Ma E. The song is Ma E 's first single as solo artist and I must say this skhanda rap is working for Cashtime Life. I can't go without mentioning though that  Ma E literally used the same hook as the one on Mzekezeke's Agekh' Ugogo, people get sued for such. But then again this is SA & it's highly unlikely especially because no one knows where/ who  Mzekezeke is.[loosely]

The second track was Two Cups Shakur by Reason, the crazy or interesting thing is both songs have sampled other artist's songs or have a piece of another artist's song. Nonetheless the track is dope.

RAPFACTOR 4:

LwaziGB took it again,he was up against Tux from Vaal . Can Someone dope please go download the beat on MS Cosmo's Soundcloud and murk this dude. LOL!

The StirUp

Top 5:

5. Body Bag     -Truey

4. Keep Going -Junior Derocka ft Zakwe,                           Maraza & Nasty C

3. RayBans      -Chad Day Don ft Cassper
                          Nyovest & Blayze

2. Idlozi           -Fab Futur3 ft Ntukza &
                           Smashis

1. Phumagim  -Cassper Nyovest

This week we had to decide on 2 new "heats" those of which were Yaya by DJ Dimples and Millionaire by Slikour and I personally couldn't find any reason for "Yaya" not to be kept on the playlist, but  the same could not be thought of Slikour's come back track.

The first time I heard "Millionaire" is when he performed it on LiveAmp and I was not impressed, actually I thought Slik was straight up insulting "our" hip hop intelligence. However I thought perhaps it was premature to judge as sometimes it takes me atleast 2 listens to be absolutely sure if a track is wack or not,  but unfortunately for Slik [or me] second time around it was equally if not more ear 'eroding' than the first.

I really want to know what was going through Slikour's  mind when he cooked up this disaster in the studio?! I mean it doesn't even sound like him, that song has an identify crisis to say the least. I can go on and on about how wack that track is, but it won't  make it sound  any better so I'll retire my opinion here...

Rapfactor 4 : Yet again Lwazi took the third round, he was up against Snatch from the Vaal who was a fair challenge. It would be dope though to see a femcee take up the battle, ladies where you at?!

Headlines

Releasing singles has been popular in the South African  hip hop industry since albums stopped selling significant numbers and producers became recognized /  popular and opened up the gates for DJs to buy beats and get various  artists to complete the job. We are yet to see a DJ releasing a full project that becomes an all round success, while we wait...

DJ Dimples dropped Yaya, yes "Yaya" is the name of the track  ft Dreamteam and Anatti and boy oh boy I would like to know the inspiration behind  that title.
Download link: datafilehost.com/d/418cbc33#.U9…

Last week HHP revealed on Facebook that he had worked with DJ Vigilante amongst others on a track,so there's that to look up to. Reason released a snippet of his first single of his next album - Audio High Definition - " 2CupsShakur " a couple of days ago and man oh man it is bannnger!! I can't wait to hear the whole track, which bither way he'll be giving away for free for an hour around the same time that he'll be performing it on LiveAmp tonight.

The StirUp the Breakdown

The StirUp: Local Top5 saw a new entry and other songs moving a notch up :
5. Lava ft Vava - Hustle Everyday
4. ABfab ft Ntukza, Smashis - Idlozi
3. Cassper Nyovest - Phumagim
2. Kid X - PassnSpecial
1. Notsi - Kgora

It kinda became tense when Ms Cosmo asked AKA if he bought Cassper's album and he firmly said no. Interestingly enough Cassper Nyovest bought AKA's album, the question is whether he was trying to be the bigger person or he's just a fan or perhaps both. AKA & Da LES revealed that they are planning to tour Africa to promote their albums

The New Hit: Chad Day Don - Ray Bans ft Cassper Nyovest. It's not the first time these two have collaborated on a track, the first time was also on Chad's song called "Hola "

Finally the first round  of the  Rap Factor started after a 2 week postponement. The "battle" was between K.Man and LwaziGB,who  took the title for round1. Whether he'll be the last man standing or not, time and skill will tell...

Open Letter to AKA from Anon

Dear AKA,

This letter to me is pointless, it won't pay my bills, it won't
get me Boity and won't improve Zuma's English but as a fan
of hip hop I believe I should vent.
I have witnessed different eras of South African hip hop,
from H2O (amanzimtoti), the reign of Skwata Kamp, the
Reason from Optical Illusion, the skinny and ghetto Prokid,
the rule of Motswako, the snobbish but rather appealing Jozi
crew and the more commercialized and Kwaito sounding hip
hop era that we are in.

In all these years I've never came across a rapper that is as
irritating as you, as cocky as you, and most of all, as bored
as you. I won't take anything away from you, you work really
hard, and your music has mass appeal but you're wrong.
South African hip hop isn't at it's current state because of
your efforts, that's Industry blasphemy, and that's highly
disrespectful to other artists who are pulling their weight,
AKeezus huh? That's like saying South Africa is at it's current
state because of Zuma, there were a series of events, activists
and rappers before you, but then again who knows, the way
you're acting one would swear that you are Zuma's bastard.

You forget that you are in South Africa, we don't have a
broad hip hop market, not everyone has an iPhone or a
computer to buy your album on iTunes, and you know well
that people don't buy CDs anymore, your last album sold
6000 copies.

I thought you would've at least learnt your
lesson. With that said, you need to humble yourself, not beg,
but be likable, or you'll be the next L-Tido. Right now you
making good music but you making it hard for a regular joe
like me to like you enough to support you.
Humble yourself or uzolamba clever!!!

On Twitter, you exhaust a lot of people, are you an orphan?
Why do you like attention so much? It's not that people are
hating on you, you are the one thats luring all that hate
towards yourself. You have a few awards now you think
you're
the Kanye West of South Africa, that
time your gf is a dark skinned dj and none of your singles
and albums sold gold (at least).
Hhayi brika bhova!!!

And lastly, learn from the greats, KO, Khuli, HHP, they've
been in the game longer than you and their albums did well
and they are still relevant. Yeah, every rapper has an ego,
when you're good you're good, but you're overly conceited
for nothing, you haven't achieved that much in the business.
Here's a thing about fame, it's comes and goes quick, so
don't make us be happy when your demise arrives, we want
to miss you one day when you have faded, right now?
We can't wait to see your downfall.
Yours truly.

#4. Solo ft Nothende - Back to you 2.0 [New
                                         Entry]
#3. ShabzMadallion - Picking Up The
                                       Pieces.

#1. Blacklez - Freedom Or Fame

Ms Cosmo had a telephone interview/ conversation  with Kid X as PassnSpecial was the "New Heat".  Kid X revealed that he'll release 2 more singles after PassnSpecial and that we should only expect a full project next year. He described PassnSpecial as a new age genre called Skhanda rap (a mixtures of kwaito and Hiphop ). The term "Skhanda "  is not foreign to me,the first time  I heard it was on The Fullclip from MT  (also a rapper). But I thought it was just an ad lib - The evolution of hip hop.

The King of the RapFactor was crowned last week but already Ms Cosmo has opened doors for the next  one to be crowned. All you have to do is download the beat on Ms Cosmo's SoundCloud, rap over it and email it to: music@mscosmodj.com.

Nicki Minaj, J.Cole, Kid-Ink, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis are just but the beginning of The TribeOne festival

I thought I was dreaming when I saw that Nicki Minaj, Kid-Ink and J. Cole are coming to Mzansi.... So like a hip hop fanatic and overall music lover that I am,I headed to my nearest search engine, Not only did I find a confirmation, but that "my source" failed to mention that multi award winning Macklemore and Ryan Lewis will also be amongst the international acts performing at the TribeOne Festival, one of the biggest festival on the continent . Oh and wait for it?! All this awesomeness will be happening in my city -of Tshwane, over the weekend of the 26th to the 28th at Cullinan. It will be J Cole's second visit to the "Mother Land" and the first for Nicki, Kid-Ink, Macklemore and Ryan. I've termed it- "a Musical Potjiekos ", with 3 major stages and 62 LIVE stages hosting over 150 artists. It's gonna be absolutely epic... Head on to tribeonefestival.com/tickets/ for more info on ticket pricing.

#PassnSpecial

In a year we have 4 season,Summer,Autumn,Winter & Spring and each and every one of those seasons have fashion shows themed around them and with those fashion shows comes a whole host of trends. It's kinda like a way of life.

In the hip-hop industry if  you're good everyone wants you on their track, you start trending. That's the case with Kid X,he's been featured on almost all hip hop bangers this year. One of them is Cara Cara, the biggest hip hop song right now.

Kid X was  one half of award winning  duo -Cashtime Fam which was the brain child of Teargas. Cashtime Fam is longer though  as both halves are pursuing solo careers  under a rebranded  Cash Time  Life. I think I've bored you enough with the man's summarized biography, let me get to what made me write this post in the first place...

Pass And Special written "PassnSpecial" is the Kid X's debut single,I think it's safe to say- the most anticipated song since "Doc Shebeleza" and "Congratulate". So much so that the title is trending on Twitter.

Kid X has managed to murk all his verses on other artist's tracks,it will interesting to hear if he'll murk himself on his own track & then resurrect... LOL!

#PassnSpecial  is due to grace our playlist on the 27th [this Friday] or if like me,you think that's too "far" heard on to @KidXSA's timeline as he'll be releasing a snippet of the song in less that 10 minutes. Here's the link >>> slikouronlife.co.za/music-kid-x-pass-n-special-snippet/111/

#Diskopaas

Last night's StirUp with Ms Cosmo was equally if not more buck than the last. The local top 5 had a new entry and other songs moving one notch up:
#5. ShabziMadallion - Picking Up The Pieces (New entry)
#4. DJ Elque ft Lection - Dress To Kill
#3. Blacklez - Freedom Of Fame
#2. IceMan - Dlala Ka Yona
#1. Hi-Def - You Got It

"The Rapfactor" saw Dynasty  lose his top spot in the last week of the competition, which he held for 5 weeks to Lwansta who was then crowned #TheKingOfTheRapFactor. So close but yet so far.

When I logged in to Facebook this morning, I saw the boy has a song titled "Winner". I don't know if the song was recorded after or what?! But judging from his lengthy status,he didn't think he was a contender. Kudos to him!

# Download his track titled "Winner" Feat. Sixfo ( Prod by Sixfo)
www.datafilehost.com/d/17bb42fe

Ms Cosmo also dropped AKA's new joint "Run Jozi" ft K.O. Personally I think the production is on another level of hella ,but I'm a bit sceptical about the lyrical content. Their verses have the "Versace" flow, which just kills it for me. But hey?! The masses seem to dig it because the song is currently #1 on SA iTunes together with his album #Levels due for release July 8th... "BUT THAT'S NON OF MY BUSINESS" LOL!

Catch Up

So it has been quite a while since I typed my thought on this or that and so much has happened between then and now.  I've been meaning to do something along the lines of a YouTube local music videos tally. I headed to the net to see who amongst our hiphop artists has the most views, so here you go...

Standing at 166 tonnes and... oh nevermind. Standing at No. 1 is Cara Cara at a whopping 400k views almost 3 times more views the video with the second most views  which is ofcourse Aka's Congratulate which bither way was released 6 days before (something to ponder or maybe not). I digress, at No.3 is Doc Shebeleza [125K] which was released on the same day as Cara Cara, the 4th video is Ifani's Ingoma Ezimnandi (sp ) [124K] followed by L-tido' Steve kekana (remix) [83K]. That sums up the top 5 and the "bottom " 6 I shall  list in numerical oder:

6.   Amantombazane (remix ) [37K]
7.   Da LES ' Fire [28K]
8.   L-tido ft Ice Prince- Fresh and Clean [12K]
9.   Imma Tell Her- DJ Capital [11K]
10. Speedsta- Hangout [10K]
11. Reason- Bump The Cheese Up [7K].

Well there you have it the top 11,
I can't help but wonder though if these artist didn't view these videos themselves?! LOL! I'm just being silly.

In other but some what related news, Cassper Nyovest just announced the release date for his debut album "Tsholofelo" named after his baby sis- 31st of July just after his twitter rival-Aka's release which is due on the 8th . Speaking of Cassper Nyovest, If you can recall T.bo Touch got him a 2 Series live on his show last week, Cassper tweeted with joy and appreciation on the day. Only to decline later that week,it's either a sweeter deal landed on his lap or his pride "trigger" got delayed... And as expected Aka made a mockery of the whole thing on twitter. Below is the album covers of the two albums, pretty dope covers. Save the dates and support your favourite artist(s).

Gimmick, Yay or Nay?!

So I don't know if I'm the only one who has noticed AKA 's tendency of staring isht up on twitter- if not with artists, with industry peeps  and then just after doing so, he starts promoting his projects.

Last night for example he tweet pic'd what seemed to be an image of tv personality Bujy rocking a similar hair do as Cassper Nyovest  with the caption "I'm  Shebeleza" (as see below) . Everyone including those who live under a rock know that Bujy is openly gay and I'm sorry, but that could possibly be interpreted in many negative ways.

There's actually a word in the dictionary to describe AKA's Uhm "strategy " and that is "Gimmick ", it must be working for Mr Forbes since Congradulate  clung to the number one spot on iTunes for approximately  nine weeks straight. Don't get me wrong the song is pretty dope but controversy assists the hype.

One would wonder if it's  fair to do such at the expense of  other rappers. Shouldn't rappers be supporting each other to help grow the industry, through healthy competition or is there no such thing as healthy competition when it comes to hip hop?! Or are they also in on it and this is not only AKA's strategy?!, it's just  he put his hand in the cookie jar first while others are/were still snoozing?! .
I can only speculate because I'm just a fan who probably wouldn't be given the time of day if I asked...and quite frankly I'm ok with that.

Hands off K.O

K.O aka Mr Cashtime  took to Twitter  this afternoon to somewhat announce his HIV status,  this after continuous speculation about the state of it. 4 days prior he twitpic'd what seemed like a letter expressing his feelings about the issue, basically saying the rumours are completely false.

I personally don't know where the rumours stem / stemmed from and I think they're completely absurd and baseless,  I mean the man looks more than healthy to me- if you know what I mean (ladies) ? ! ^^,  LOL!

Another thing which perplexed me is the fact that those who drove him to do what he did in the first place, continued to scold him for it. Can somebody say conundrum?! Jeez!!!!

What K.O did is commendable,he stood up for himself against the vultures of social media, there's nothing more he can do, but to hit the stu and brew us another hit. In the meantime #Caracara will be on repeat. :)

#FindTeepee

So I was going through my Facebook posts as per usual and I came across a disturbing  post by Jay Stash shared by SA hip hop Download Links saying that vocalist Teepee has gone missing. His car was found vandalised and his phone is off.

He has been in the music industry for a "minute" & has worked with likes of Amu,Pro, Sean Pages, HHP, Mr Selwyn amongst others.
Some of you might know him from JR's 2009 hit single "So Hot",  he was also featured on HHP 's "Dream Girl".

I really hope they find the dude in one peace -he is young, talented & I'm sure plenty dreams to achieve. #FindTeepee

News just In

Some of  you who haven't lived under a rock in the past year should know that Doc Shebeleza was and probably still is the biggest hip hop song in SA and it seems as though coporates are starting to notice.

One brand in particular (Savanna ) has allegedly falsely capitalized on the success of the track by putting up an ad campaign which looks like a play on words of  the song's lyrics.

Cassper Nyovest expressed his disappointment and annoyance on Facebook, saying he didn't get any compensation for it but he is not gonna take it up legally... So if  you were is Cassper Nyovest's shoes what would you do?...
